KIM-1 is a biomarker of renal proximal tubular damage.  Shedding of its extracellular domain into urine and blood is proportional to its cell surface expression levels. During KIM-1 upregulation, urine concentrations are higher than blood levels and as a result more sensitive than blood levels.  However, with Myriad RBM’s Ultrasensitive Simoa KIM-1 assay, investigators can sensitively monitor KIM-1 in serum or plasma.  KIM-1 testing from serum or plasma eliminates the need for urine collection, and avoids the confounding factors of variable protein concentrations in spot urine samples, or normalization to imperfect analytes such as urine creatinine. Recent research suggest that KIM-1 is not only a useful biomarker of AKI, but also an early indicator of CKD progression.

Amphiregulin (AR) is a bi-functional growth-modulating member of the EGF family of growth factors and is a mitogen for fibroblasts, astrocytes, Schwann cells, and tumor cells.  It can be a significant driver of breast cancer, in addition to various other cancers.  It is also induced in inflammation, is pro-fibrogenic and has been linked to liver fibrosis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma.

Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is an important cytokine regulator of Th2 responses that is expressed predominantly by CD4+ T cells and mast cells. IL-31 is a biomarker for Atopic Dermatitis, as well as a therapeutic target for that and other skin diseases.
