NAFLD AND NASH

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common liver condition in the Western world and an increasingly common indication for liver transplantation. It incorporates a spectrum of liver diseases characterized by abnormal accumulation of lipid (steatosis) arising in the absence of excess alcohol consumption. These diseases cover a continuum of stages ranging from steatosis, to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis, eventually resulting in liver failure. (1)
